ACADEMIC SUPPORT:
Every Wednesday afternoon, our students have the possibility to receive academic support. When our students have some difficulty to understand and / or internalize some knowledge or to reach a certain competence, they are summoned to this space to help them overcome these obstacles.
INSTITUTIONAL PROJECTS
MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. MUN involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities. It is meant to engage students and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world issues.
SCHOOL GARDEN PROJECT
In order to improve the knowledge, practices and attitudes of the educational community regarding education in nutrition, the Colegio Guillermo Ponce de León, has developed various actions. One of these actions is the School Garden which encourages students to adopt healthy habits and practices, to become participants and subjects committed to their own health and become example of food production in their homes.
This school garden is carried out with the collaboration and support of the entire educational community, who seek ways to permeate the student with recreational-pedagogical activities that are in favor of the improvement of healthy eating, care of the land, valorization of our farmers and the commitment of a sustainable future taking advantage of the environment and optimizing the resources that nature provides.
AFROCOLOMBIAN IDENTITY PROJECT
The realization of these cultural spaces are in accordance with the development of cultural identity, which is formed individually and collectively from an early age, through constant interaction with the environment, the school being an ideal space for socialization and learning of the distinctive features, spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional, which are understood in the arts and letters, ways of life, value systems, traditions and beliefs of the human groups that are in our territory. (Congress of the Republic, 1997)
Thanks to this type of activities, students are able to recognize themselves and recognize how their behaviors and customs are the result of a historical process in our region, which starts from the assent of the indigenous communities in our territory, passing through the time of the conquest with the arrival of the Spaniards, the time of the colony, where some African slaves were brought to the Colombia.
SPELLING BEE
As a project in the area of bilingualism, the purpose of the "Spelling Bee" project is to help students’ approach and learn different aspects of American culture. Additionally, by holding spelling bee contests, children will improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts, develop their self-esteem, communication, public speaking and develop the correct use of English.
POETRY FESTIVAL
As a project of the Language Area, the poetry festival brings us closer to aesthetics, rhythm, creativity, imagination and knowledge. Some of the advantages of reading, writing and reciting poetry are the development of language, the development of new communication skills and the empowerment of verbal expression. It also supports the understanding of increasingly complex concepts that stimulate the development of thought and language.
Beyond the benefits listed, poetry promotes the formation of aesthetic values as it is an expression of culture and society, which favors the significant learning of new knowledge by helping the student to form a more integrating worldview.
MATH OLYMPICS
The Mathematical Olympiad has as its fundamental objective to stimulate among students the ability to solve problems and motivate students towards the study of this science, achieving the rigor and discipline that this area requires, allowing the development of skills. Undoubtedly, mathematics has been in many cases a barrier for a large number of students and that is why we must promote and improve performance in this area. Through the Math Olympics, our students learn and grow in reason and knowledge.
EXPOCIENCE
The Expo-science is a space that encourages the ingenuity of our students, a place where they have the opportunity to discover, know, experience and approach the scientific world through Science, Technology and Innovation activities. This scientific fair seeks to promote the critical and investigative spirit of children, as well as to awaken interest in scientific knowledge, its appropriation and dissemination. This event allows our students to take ownership of science and technology, understand the importance of research and verify that science is part of their day to day and is in everything.
